Democratic National Convention, 1964 -Because Democratic President Lyndon Johnson had announced he would not seek a second term, the purpose of the convention was to select a new nominee to run as the Democratic Party’s candidate for the office.

Jim Crow - used to describe the segregation laws, rules, and customs which arose after Reconstruction ended in 1877 and continued until the mid-1960's
Ku Klux Klan - An organization in the U.S. which believes in white supremacy or white nationalism
literacy tests - government practice of testing the literacy of potential citizens at the federal level, and potential voters at the state level
Little Rock Nine - 9 african americans going to an all white school
lynchings - executions carried out by mobs
